True story; this officer (John Pike) got a settlement of $38,000 because he said he got depressed after pepper spraying these kids. Oh, the depression wasn’t for feeling remorseful for pepper spraying a bunch of college kids peacefully protesting. He got depressed because he said since the media kept playing the video of him pepper spraying peaceful kids without cause, he got threats and didn’t feel safe. He didn’t feel safe. I’m not making that up. This motherfucker collected nearly 40 grand on worker’s comp after assaulting a bunch of college kids.

The Ferguson City Council convened for the first time since Mike Brown’s death, and proved that they literally give no fucks about what the community has to say. Added to their vague, paltry proposed reforms, seems real change will have to come in Ferguson via the ballot box. I don’t care where you live folks— let this be a lesson in voting/participating in your local elections and government! #staywoke #farfromover

    My people getting it!

these people are the real heroes. not the military, not politicians, not the Hollywood actors. they risked their lives and livelihoods to challenge white supremacy and institutionalized racism.

Today’s the day. The day you help save the internet from being ruined.

    Ready?

Yes, you are, and we’re ready to help you.

(Long story short: The FCC is about to make a critical decision as to whether or not internet service providers have to treat all traffic equally. If they choose wrong, then the internet where anyone can start a website for any reason at all, the internet that’s been so momentous, funny, weird, and surprising—that internet could cease to exist. Here’s your chance to preserve a beautiful thing.)

Hey I just did this and I totally stumbled over my words but whatever! I know that if enough people actually call in the senate takes notice. Please call! It literally take like 30 seconds. Calling people is scary but so is an internet without net neutrality!!

Nicholas Lord, a Navy sailor since 2008 currently on active duty, is under investigation after threatening to rape a young woman who is a Navy recruit.
The young woman posted a photo of herself on Facebook, captioning it to say she’s proud of how she’s working hard to get in shape for the Navy, and she’s excited to be leaving soon. The photo was shared on the page for her Delayed Entry Program for her fellow Navy recruits.
Nicholas Lord, who is not a current recruit and who has been serving in the Navy since 2008, then commented:
You’ll end up pregnant real soon you fucking wh***. If I could and I knew you, I’d hold you down and rape you.
The next day, Lord gloated about his threat on his Facebook page, updating his status to say he’d been “trolling feminist pages.” In case it needs to be said, the Facebook page for a Navy program is not a “feminist page.” It’s a Navy recruiting page. (x) (x)
I don’t know what the Navy’s punishment system is like, but I hope he gets the worst possible. I hope they investigate his past history in the military, too. If he’s bold enough to outright threaten female recruits, under his own name, on public, Navy-run social media, I seriously doubt he hasn’t harassed and threatened female sailors. He may even have raped them.
Especially given the military’s problem with letting men get away with harassment and rape, they need to severely punish him.

Send it viral, and he will see ramifications.

If you only reblog one thing today I hope it’s this.

I’ve recently become fascinated by why tuition costs have risen so much in the last 30 years. I mean…it’s insane, and it doesn’t result in a better education. It turns out, for the most part, that it’s marketing. Universities spending money so that they look better than other universities so they get more and better students so that they can make more money (largely via student loans.)

Student loans mean well, and they’re vital. But the education industry has been economically incentivized by their easy access to raise prices and get more students paying more. Schools that don’t spend lots of money on luxury dorms and top notch sports programs don’t grow…kids don’t go to them because, effectively, it’s the same price for 18 year olds because the loans are available.

We should start a university that costs $3000 per year, but you have to sleep on a cot with six other people in the room. Like Hogwarts.

I’ve been thinking of going back to finish my degree lately. I would need at LEAST $20,000 USD for two years. I would also have to take out a loan higher than that because I wouldn’t be able to work as much as I do now, so I would have to have money for living expenses such as food and gas. Also, I help my parents out with their expenses so my decision would put a heavy burden on my whole family, not just me. God willing I can keep working full time as I am now in the Oil Industry for a bit more and save up enough to go back to school.

Louisville Metro Police say they’ve arrested a man who terrorized his Hispanic neighbors.
According to an arrest warrant, the trouble started on Aug. 31, on Lipps Lane, off Preston Highway. Police say a Hispanic family was arriving home when they noticed that their neighbor, 51-year-old Douglas Poynter, had painted the words “KKK wants you to burn” on the side of his fence, facing their house.
Poynter also had erected a cross with the word “burn” written underneath it, police say.
According to the arrest warrant, he was still standing in his yard — covered in paint — when the family arrived. When they asked him why he would do this, Poynter allegedly swore at them yelling, “F____ you. F_____ all you immigrants.”
"He started threatening me and said the first chance I get, you’re mine. I’m gonna shoot you. Then he started pointing his shotgun out of the window," said Jesus Alamo.
Police say Poynter then swung his fist at Jesus Alamo, who pushed him back.
The victim’s 9-year-old step-daughter then said she was going to call the police.
Poynter them went inside his home and came out with a shotgun, police say, pointing at the Hispanic father, who was holding his 22-month-old son in his arms at the time, and telling him that he would shoot him the first chance he got, either in the front or the back.
When police arrived a short time later, they allegedly saw that Poynter was drunk.
The next day, on Sept. 1, the family came outside their home and immediately detected the stench of gasoline, according to the warrant, and noticed a puddle of gas on the porch. The father then told his family to go out the patio door, but they allegedly noticed gasoline on a rubber mat outside that door as well. When the family attempted to exit from a laundry room door, they found another puddle of gasoline, according to the warrant.
They decided to call the police.
While they were waiting for officers to arrive, Poynter allegedly walked out of his home with the shotgun and began waving it around, pointing it at the father and saying, “Sooner or later, you’re gonna die. You and your family.”
Police say they arrived a short time later, saw Poynter with the gun and drew their own weapons.
They ultimately advised the victim’s family to file a criminal complaint. According to the warrant, the victim claims to have had trouble with Poynter for several months, including one incident in which Poynter walked into his family’s home without being invited. Police say the man’s children — 12-year-old twins and a 22-month-old — are terrified of Poynter.
An arrest warrant was issued on Sept. 2, and Poynter was arrested later that afternoon. He was charged with criminal trespassing, attempted arson, terroristic threatening, wanton endangerment, harassment and menacing.
In court on Wednesday, Poynter shook his head as court officials described what he’s accused of doing.
By the afternoon, he was released from jail on a $10,000 bond.
